Tonio finished the final free practice ahead of qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix in the top ten. After an hour’s practice in which he worked on longer runs and also qualifying simulations, Tonio was classed in tenth position. He was unlucky with traffic on his potentially quickest runs and completed 19 laps of the 5.303km Albert Park course.

Local hero Mark Webber was quickest of the 24 drivers, ahead of Bahrain GP winner Fernando Alonso and seven times world champion Michael Schumacher.
