Tonio to run with F-duct in Istanbul

Vitantonio LiuzziThe Force India team has arrived in Turkey with an F-duct system, ready to be used for the first time this weekend. Tonio is confident that the device, will make a significant difference for both himself and team-mate Adrian Sutil. Force India has moved firmly ahead of Williams in the Constructors’ Championship but now finds itself behind Renault, currently trailing them by 35 points.

However, Tonio is confident that the installation of a rear wing-stalling F-duct, first introduced by McLaren, is the way forward. The system allows drivers to control airflow to the back of the car and therefore reduce downforce and increase top speeds on straights.

“We’re really optimistic about it,” the Italian explained to reporters in Turkey on Thursday afternoon. “You never know. The team has done a lot of work and has been testing it in the wind tunnel for the last two weeks – it seemed to work pretty well; tomorrow we’ll get the full confirmation because, until you’re on-track, you never know but we are pretty optimistic that it should be spot on.”

Tonio also revealed that, unlike at Ferrari, the Force India drivers will be able to remain in full control of their cars. “We have made a simple system which involves the wrist, so we don’t have to take a hand off the steering wheel. We have tried many positions but I think that’s the easiest and most comfortable one.”
