Tonio missed out on scoring points again in today’s German Grand Prix. Starting from the 22nd position on the grid, the race was always going to be an uphill battle.

Due to a gearbox change penalty for Timo Glock, Tonio moved up one place and started the race from 21st on the grid. In the first lap he made contact with another car and had to come in for a new front wing. He got a new front wing, but the team mixed-up the tyres of Sutil and Tonio. Therefore, Tonio had to come in again to fit the right tyres on his car.

He rejoined the race at the back of the field and overtook several drivers with ease. After a pit stop of team mate Sutil, he moved up to 16th, right behind Alguersuari. With only three laps to go in the race, Tonio came in for some new tyres, but he kept his 16th position. After the race, Force India was reprimanded for their tyre mix-up in the pits. This means that Tonio and Sutil will keep their positions.

Tonio commented: “It’s been a pretty disappointing race weekend overall. I had one contact on the first lap and we believed we had damaged the front wing, so I came to the pits for a change but there was a mix-up in the stop with the tyres so I had to come back in again. It was a shame as I had had a good first lap until that point and afterwards we had a really strong race pace. It was always going to be tough, but the pace we showed was the same as the top ten runners. We have to look at these positives and look forward to the next race in Budapest.”
