To celebrate our 1st anniversary you, we’ve added two brand new Screensavers to the website. This year we want offer you even more information, images and goodies from Tonio than last year, so don’t miss it!
After two days of testing with Scott Speed, Tonio took over today. His best time after 47 laps was 1:32.359, again almost two seconds faster then a few days ago! Unfortunately his time wasn’t good enough to beat Massa’s best time of 1:30.640, but Tonio was faster then some Red Bull and Honda drivers. Tomorrow will be the last day of testing before the teams head to Melbourne for the first race of the season.
Today’s test day in Bahrain was a remarkable day. Tonio was two seconds faster than yesterday with his fastest lap of 1:34.187, and just 0.2 seconds slower than Coulthard in his Red Bull. Besides that, there was no Ferrari that topped the time sheets today. This time it was BMW’s Heidfeld, who drove a remarkable 1:30.469, which was even faster than the pole from 2006! Testing continues tomorrow with Scott Speed.
For the second time this year Tonio tested the STR2 car, this time at the Bahrain’s Sakhir circuit. He covered 25 laps, with a fastest lap time of 1:36.345. This was almost five seconds slower than the Ferrari’s who topped the time sheets today. Tonio also tested a new Bell helmet for the second time in this winter period, to see if this helmet fits him better than his current helmet. Tonio will test tomorrow again.
The Toro Rosso team completed their first day of work with the new STR2 car at the Barcelona circuit. Today was very much a shakedown and systems check, with no thought of setting quick lap times. Because of that, Tonio completed 43 laps and finished five seconds off the pace, while Red Bull colleague Coulthard topped the time sheets with a best lap of 1:21.855. Testing continues next week in Bahrain.
Scuderia Toro Rosso has finally confirmed their launch date. On Tuesday 13 February, the team will launch their car at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya. The 2007 driver line-up of the team still hasn’t been made public, but it’s expected that the team will keep Tonio and Scott Speed as their two drivers. Be sure to keep an eye on this website when we will update you with all the news and images from Barcelona!
F1′s winter testing programme continued today at the Jerez circuit in Spain. Tonio had a busy day covering 96 laps, with a fastest time of 1:21,472. Like last week’s test, the Ferrari drivers were the fastest men on track today, when Felipe Massa set a lap time of 1:19.462, 2.010 seconds faster then Tonio’s lap time. Toro Rosso’s winter testing programme continues for another two days, with Scott Speed in the car.
Tonio will take part in Desafio Internacional das Estrelas (International Challenge of the Stars), a kart race hosted by Felipe Massa that will be held on 16 & 17 December 2006. A strong 25 drivers field, among them Rubens Barrichello, Tiago Monteiro and Robert Doornbos will attend this event, located at Florianopolis, 700 km south off Sao Paulo (Brazil). Eurosport will broadcast the race for Europe.
